Many parents like pediatric massage, but many acupuncture points, unfamiliar techniques, and sometimes the use of traditional Chinese medicine syndrome differentiation always discourage many mothers. Therefore, we go to the complexity and simplify, starting with the simplest single acupoint, and with pictures of acupuncture points, illustrating its application and efficacy in practical life.

Case

My friend’s 4-year-old baby often has a loud voice. A few days ago, the season changed, the baby had a fever, cough, did not like to eat, and pointed to the throat and said that it hurt. A friend took the baby to the hospital and was diagnosed with acute purulent tonsillitis. After taking the medicine for a few days, the symptoms were relieved, but the anxious parents wanted to make the baby get better faster and asked the doctor if there was any other way. The doctor of the acupuncture department pricked the nail of the baby’s index finger (Shangyang acupoint), squeezed out two or three drops of slightly darker blood, and treated with the original medicine, and the baby’s symptoms improved significantly the next day. Later, I did a few more bloodlettings, and the baby recovered quickly.

The Shangyang acupoint is located on the radial side of the distal segment of the index finger, 0.1 inch from the corner of the nail.

02Acupuncture point interpretation

Shangyang acupoint is the starting acupoint of the large intestine meridian of the hand yang ming, and it is also the well point of the hand yang ming meridian. In the position of the meridians, it is inherited from the purifying qi of the lung meridians, and it is handed over. Clinically, some acute diseases or fever can be treated by puncturing Shangyang acupoint, especially for acute diseases of the neck, larynx and teeth where the meridians of the large intestine pass by, such as tonsillitis, wind, fire and toothache.03How it works:

Shallow prick 0.1 inch, or prick bleeding.
Utensils used

(1) 75% alcohol cotton ball; (2) Triangular needle or blood collection needle for measuring blood sugar. (1) and (2) are available in pharmacies, and needles can also be replaced by household needles for sewing clothes, and no matter what kind of needles are strictly sterilized.

Procedure

(1) The child is in a sitting or lying position, and the family helps the operator to fix the baby’s fingers.

(2) The operator first uses his fingers to push the baby’s index finger from the root of the baby’s finger to the fingertip direction to make the fingertip congested.

(3) Disinfect the baby’s index finger with a 75% alcohol cotton ball.

(4) The operator pinched the tip of the baby’s index finger with one hand, and quickly punctured the skin of the tip of the index finger (the location of Shangyang acupoint) with a sterilized needle with the other hand, and squeezed out 2 ~ 3 drops of blood (if the symptoms are more severe, the number of bloodletting drops can be increased accordingly), and then take a dry cotton ball to press to stop bleeding. Generally, patients with tonsillitis and pharyngitis have a darker color of squeezing blood.
Precautions

Lancets can be given once a day or every other day until symptoms are relieved.04Acupuncture point application

1. When the baby is diagnosed with tonsillitis, prick the Shangyang acupoint will have a good effect.

2. If the child is constipated, parents can push it from the base of the index finger to the Shangyang acupoint 100~300 times.

3. When the child has acute high fever, you can prick the Shangyang acupoint to help reduce the fever.
