Main Treated Disease Name:Stiff Tongue

Song Formula
A stiff tongue is caused by the heat of the heart and stomach, dampness, and phlegm. One wants to speak but makes no sound and mumbles. Pricking Yamen, Fengfu, and Zusanli is effective, along with Guanchong, Hegu, and Lianquan.

Introduction of Acupoints
Yamen: Located on the Governor Vessel Meridian, five fen below the hairline at the back of the head.
Fengfu: Located on the Governor Vessel Meridian, one cun below the hairline at the back of the head.
Zusanli: Located three cun below the patella, on the outer edge of the tibia, between the two tendons.

Zusanli

Guanchong: Located on the outer side of the ring finger of the hand, at a distance from the corner of the nail as wide as a chive leaf.
Hegu: Located in the depression between the first and second metacarpal bones of the hand.
Lianquan: Located on the Conception Vessel Meridian, below the chin, above the Adam’s apple, in the central depression.

Analysis of Etiology and Pathology
[Analysis 1]: According to the Great Compendium of Acupuncture and Moxibustion, this disease is all caused by damp phlegm stagnating at the root of the tongue, and the old heat clashing with it, resulting in the inability to speak. The mouth is the orifice of the spleen, and the tongue is the sprout of the heart. When the heat of the heart and stomach is excessive, the tongue becomes stiff and it is difficult to speak.

Physiological Analysis
The tongue is an organ responsible for tasting. It is in the mouth, composed of muscle fibers, and can move freely. Its surface is covered with mucous membrane, and nerves and blood vessels are densely distributed in it, so it is the most sensitive part. It also helps with pronunciation.
