Neck gua sha is a traditional Chinese medicine health care method. Before operating, it is necessary to prepare the appropriate gua sha tools, various types of gua sha boards. The person who is being scraped should be in a comfortable position, fully exposing the neck. Start by applying an appropriate amount of gua sha oil or petroleum jelly to your neck to reduce friction.

When scraping, use the edge of the gua sha board at an angle of about 45 degrees to the skin, starting from the midline of the neck and scraping from top to bottom along the muscle texture on both sides. The strength should be moderate, to be tolerated by the scraper, generally 20-30 times for each part.

Neck gua sha can mainly alleviate the following symptoms

One is to relieve tension in the neck muscles. Bad postures such as working at a desk for a long time and looking down at a mobile phone can easily lead to stiff neck muscles, and gua sha can promote the relaxation of neck muscles and reduce muscle soreness.

The second is to improve local blood circulation. It helps to dredge the stagnation of qi and blood in the meridians, and has a certain relieving effect on symptoms such as coldness and numbness in the neck caused by poor qi and blood.

Third, it has an auxiliary improvement effect on some cervical spondylosis symptoms. For example, it can reduce neck pain and limited movement caused by cervical degeneration or strain, but this can only help relieve the effect and cannot replace medical treatment.

Fourth, it may have a certain adjuvant therapeutic effect on cough. From the perspective of TCM meridians, there are meridians such as Ren meridians in front of the neck. Cough is mostly related to the upward reversal of lung qi, etc., and by properly scraping at the front of the neck to stimulate the meridian acupoints, it can regulate qi and blood, play a role in widening the chest and regulating qi, relieving cough and reducing phlegm. For example, stimulation around the Tiantu point (located in the center of the suprasternal fossa on the anterior midline of the neck) can help relieve throat discomfort and reduce cough symptoms.

However, there are contraindications to neck gua sha. Do not scrape the skin that is broken, inflamed, or irritated. In addition, people with severe cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases and weak constitution should be used with caution, however, this kind of gua sha is only an auxiliary means, for severe neck discomfort or cough symptoms are violent, frequent or caused by other complex causes (such as lung infection, tuberculosis, etc.), It is still necessary to seek medical attention in time and take corresponding medical measures such as medicines.
