Precautions for Acupoint Pressing
- Before learning, you need to prepare two diagrams first. 1. A wall chart of the human body for acupuncture and moxibustion. 2. A foot reflexology chart. First, understand the location of each acupoint and which meridian it belongs to. After getting familiar with them, look for the relevant acupoints. They are basically on the same line, making it convenient to find them.
- Carefully refer to the acupoints and precautions mentioned in the article.
- During acupoint pressing treatment, the patient should feel a sour and swollen sensation with a slight hint of pain at the acupoints being pressed. If there is only a single painful feeling, it means the acupoint has not been accurately located, and you need to find the acupoint again. After the treatment, the patient should feel slightly sweaty, which is the best effect.
- When pressing the acupoints, keep the manipulation in a vertical direction, and the pressure should be based on what the patient can tolerate. After pressing the acupoints, gently massage the acupoints appropriately. Since some patients have a reduction in platelets themselves, if there are purple patches on the skin after pressing the acupoints, gentle massage can avoid this phenomenon.
- For the limbs of patients who have undergone acupoint pressing treatment, whether it is the upper limbs or the lower limbs, generally from the second to the third day, there will be soreness symptoms of varying degrees. This phenomenon is a normal reaction and will disappear naturally after two days without the need for any treatment. It does not affect the continued treatment of the patient.
- When treating the patient, as long as the acupoints are accurately located and the pressure is appropriate, the limbs or relevant parts that the patient could not move originally should be able to move immediately after the treatment. The limbs or relevant parts that could move originally should become more flexible, and the range of motion should be larger.
- For patients who have undergone acupoint pressing treatment, when their limbs can move for the first time, you can ask the patients to move intermittently, but it is prohibited to ask them to move continuously. Because their limbs have not been used for a long time due to illness, when their limbs can move for the first time, every movement they make requires an instruction from the brain and coordination of the limb nervous system. They need to exert almost all their strength to complete a certain movement. Generally, they can repeat the movement after 15 to 20 minutes. Only after the patient’s physical condition is enhanced should their exercise amount be appropriately increased.
- For patients who are in the process of recovery, first of all, you need to have love and patience. Every time they take a step forward, we should give them double encouragement. In the later rehabilitation training, patients will make a lot of mistakes, or they may not be serious during the training, or their movements may not be standardized. This requires us to care about them, show them consideration, and help them without getting tired of it, because they are patients, our friends, or even your own relatives.
- The biggest confusion for patients in the later stage is that they dare not learn to walk boldly. The reason is that the nervous system of the soles of their feet has not fully recovered its sensation. Before they start walking, it is necessary to strengthen the acupoint pressing treatment of the acupoints on the soles of their feet, and it is required that every part of the nervous system of the soles of their feet should recover its sensation to eliminate their concerns about walking in the future.
- Finally, do not rush to let the patients walk. After their limbs have recovered, first let them learn to stand against the wall. If they can stand against the wall for more than 20 minutes, they can learn to march in place. If they can march in place for more than 30 minutes, at this time, the patients can walk steadily forward.
