Diabetes is a problem with the three major “water organs” in the body, and it can be treated with just four medicinal herbs. Later, I realized that taking Western medicine for a long time is nothing but a cage woven by mediocre doctors!
Fifteen years ago, diabetes was my biggest concern. It was not until I met a rural herbalist that I managed to get out of trouble.
By chance, I got to know a rural herbalist from Guizhou.
When the rural herbalist saw me reading a medical book, he asked me, “Can you let me take a look at this book?”
I handed the book to him. He took it and squinted his eyes, reading it very carefully. He didn’t return the book to me until the third day. Just like that, we got to know each other better.
Every time the rural herbalist borrowed a book from me, he would tell me a lot of his insights about diseases, from which I also benefited a great deal.
I often encountered many diabetes patients, and diabetes was also a worry for me. So I asked the rural herbalist for advice. Seeing this, the rural herbalist wrote a prescription and then turned around and left.
Before long, a patient’s diabetes was indeed cured. So, I quickly went to consult the rural herbalist again.
He only said, “Diabetes is a problem with the three major water organs in the body, and it can be treated with just four medicinal herbs.”
At that time, I thought he was afraid that I would learn his skills. Looking back now, I really judged a gentleman by a villain’s heart!
With the enrichment of my clinical experience, I became more and more convinced of what the rural herbalist said. My colleagues in the hospital only knew how to prescribe Western medicine to patients to maintain their condition. I told them the prescription, but none of them used it.
One of my colleagues’ words hit me like a blow. He said, “Come on, save it. So what if you understand? Where will our commissions come from if the patients are cured?”
After hearing these words, I couldn’t help but sigh: Doctors who only let patients take Western medicine to maintain their condition are not only mediocre but also greedy!
Previously, I received a patient who was diagnosed with diabetes as early as ten years ago. He had taken a lot of Western medicine to lower his blood sugar, but there was no improvement.
In recent years, the patient always felt extremely thirsty with a dry mouth, dry eyes, excessive thirst and a large amount of drinking, and his urine output was particularly high. Moreover, he had constipation and was exhausted all over.
When the patient went for an examination, he was shocked to find that his urine sugar was four plus signs and his fasting blood glucose was 10.5. This time, the patient decided to try traditional Chinese medicine.
Upon diagnosis, I saw that the patient’s tongue was slightly red, his tongue coating was thin and rough, and his pulse was weak and thready.
So, I prescribed the following: Radix Adenophorae, Fructus Corni, Rhizoma Alismatis, and Radix Puerariae.
What was the result? After the patient took the medicine for two courses of treatment, the problem of extreme thirst with a dry mouth basically disappeared, and his urine output decreased. He felt much more comfortable than before. At this time, I made some slight adjustments to the original prescription, and the patient continued to take the medicine for three more courses of treatment. In the end, all the uncomfortable symptoms disappeared, his fasting blood glucose was 5.55, and his urine sugar turned negative.
What on earth is the principle behind this?
In our human body, there are three major water organs. One is the upper source of water – the lung; one is the lower source of water – the kidney; and one is the central hub of water metabolism – the spleen.
Taking diabetes as an example, a common situation is that both the lung and the kidney are deficient in yin, that is, problems occur in both the upper and lower sources of water.
Why is that? Traditional Chinese medicine believes that the lung is in charge of the distribution of body fluids. Once the lung yin is deficient, the lung cannot distribute body fluids to the kidney, and the kidney yin loses its nourishment.
The kidney dominates the yin of the whole body. When the kidney yin is deficient, it will lead to an even greater deficiency of the lung yin. In this way, a vicious cycle is formed.
Whether it is a deficiency of lung yin or a deficiency of kidney yin, it will cause a series of symptoms of diabetes.
When the lung yin is deficient, there will be a dry mouth; if the lung cannot distribute body fluids to the large intestine, the intestines will be dry and constipated; if the lung cannot distribute body fluids throughout the body, the body fluids will flow downward, resulting in frequent urination and a large urine output.
When the kidney yin is insufficient, the kidney fails to perform its functions of opening and closing properly, and fails to seal and retain substances. As a result, the essence substances are excreted in the urine, leading to an increase in urine sugar; the limbs of the human body do not receive the nourishment of the essence substances, so the patient will feel weak.
The root cause of all this is the deficiency of yin in the lung and kidney. Therefore, in treatment, it is necessary to nourish the yin of the lung and kidney, that is, to clear and nourish the lung and kidney.
In the prescription, Radix Adenophorae can nourish the lung yin; Fructus Corni can nourish the kidney yin; Radix Puerariae can generate body fluids and make them flow upward; Rhizoma Alismatis can discharge turbid substances and make them flow downward.
Later, I finally understood: In this era, experts may not necessarily be able to cure diseases, and those who can cure diseases may not necessarily be experts. In a bustling hospital, there are human relationships and the principle of putting interests first everywhere. Only those doctors who put patients first are good doctors.
