Nowadays, the meridian blockage has become a problem faced by many people. “The Yellow Emperor’s Neijing” has a cloud: “All diseases originate from the blockage of the meridians”, and the folk also spread the saying that “the meridians are blocked, and the stroke is when walking”, which shows the importance of unblocked meridians for health.
Most people have the problem of blocked meridians, and the root cause is closely related to daily habits. For example, excessive intake of junk food with additives can lead to the accumulation of toxins; Preference for cold food and over-reliance on air conditioning give the dampness and cold an opportunity; Sedentary for long periods of time, staring at computer and mobile phone screens; As well as long-term high pressure and low mood, resulting in slow metabolism and difficult excretion of toxins.
It is worth noting that relying on diet therapy alone cannot effectively unblock the meridians. Because the nutrients ingested by the human body need to be converted into qi and blood, which are transported to various organs through the meridians, if the meridians are blocked, the nutrients are only wasted.
So, is there an easy way to unblock the meridians at home and stay healthy?
The answer is yes, and that is to practice meditation.

Even if you don’t run or jump, sitting for 10 minutes a day can reap many benefits:
- Regulate qi and blood, and drain blood downward: Usually, the body’s qi and blood are mostly concentrated in the trunk and head and face, and the limbs, especially the feet, are prone to coldness. Vajra sits stimulates the meridians and acupoints through specific movements, which can guide qi and blood to the lower body, achieve the effect of “nourishing qi” and “nourishing blood”, and at the same time promote the blood return of the lower body, nourish the internal organs and muscles of the whole body, and make people more energetic.
- Dredging the meridians and awakening the vitality of the body: When kneeling and sitting, the muscles in front of the legs are in a tense state, which helps to stretch the Zuyang Ming stomach meridians that follow here, thus dredging the meridians and awakening the vitality of the body.
- Reconcile the spleen and stomach and consolidate the foundation of Peiyuan: The calf nose acupoints and Zusanli acupoints on the left and right sides below the knees are the main health acupoints of the stomach meridian. When kneeling and sitting, it can stimulate the stomach meridian, spleen meridian and liver meridian to keep it smooth, and then reconcile the spleen and stomach to achieve the purpose of consolidating the foundation and cultivating the yuan.
- Stretch the spine and adjust posture: During kneeling and sitting, it can help keep the spine centered and create good conditions for the normal work of the internal organs. In addition, it can also enhance the flexibility of the lower limbs, and play a role in assisting in the correction of poor posture such as knee varus and pelvic forward tilt.

When meditating cross-legged, choose a quiet, comfortable, well-ventilated environment with soft cushions on the floor or bed. After sitting, be sure to keep your back upright, perpendicular to the ground, not leaning forward, leaning back or skewing left and right, so that the Baihui acupoint and the perineum acupoint form a vertical line, and the buttocks can be slightly tilted back and outward, so that the spine is in a suitable position. The head is straight, the lower jaw is slightly tucked, the tongue is against the roof of the mouth, the shoulders are naturally stretched and sagging, do not deliberately hold the chest up, and the hands can be knotted with samadhi marks or placed on the legs.
However, while a “sitting” workout is good, there are a number of caveats:
In terms of schedule, it is advisable for beginners to meditate for 30 minutes to 1 hour at a time, and also 1 to 2 hours after meals to avoid meditating when they are too full or hungry.
The daily diet should be kept light, and the combination of meat and vegetables should be mainly vegetarian, which is more conducive to the purity of qi and vein energy.
When meditating, avoid blowing against the cold wind, choose the shaking head mode and keep a certain distance when using the electric fan in summer, and do not meditate at the outlet of the refrigeration and air conditioner to prevent the loss of yang energy and the invasion of cold into the body.
If you experience discomfort symptoms such as soreness, numbness, swelling and pain in your legs during meditation, do not force yourself to insist, but adjust your posture appropriately or stop temporarily. When sitting, you should massage your hair, face, ears, knees, and pat your legs and whole body to promote blood circulation.
