Analysis of Etiology and Pathology
[Analysis 1]: According to the Golden Mirror: Tooth bleeding (gingival bleeding) from the interdental spaces is due to excess or deficiency heat in the Stomach and Kidney Meridians. In cases of excess, there is often bad breath and the teeth are firm. In cases of deficiency, the situation is the opposite, and these should be distinguished. This condition is caused by heat and should be differentiated into excess and deficiency types. Whether for adults or children, if there is excess heat in the Stomach Meridian, the blood will gush out, the mouth will surely have a bad smell, and the teeth will not move. If there is deficiency fire in the Stomach Meridian, the gums will be rotten and there will be a continuous seepage of light-colored blood. If there is deficiency in the Kidney Meridian, the blood will drip out, the teeth will also have a slight pain, there will be no bad breath but toothache, or the teeth may fall out.
[Analysis 2]: According to the New Compilation of Effective Prescriptions: The disease of bleeding from the interdental spaces is called “tooth declination” and also “tooth bleeding”. It is mainly due to the internal burning of yin fire. When yin deficiency leads to extreme heat, it irritates the Yangming Meridian. When it occurs, the bleeding may not stop. If not treated urgently, it will be difficult to save the patient. However, for the elderly, if there is bleeding from the interdental spaces with purple-black blood clots gushing out like a spring, it indicates that the true yin has been lost and the dragon fire (a metaphor for the strong fire of the kidney) has escaped. If the bleeding does not stop within three days, it is extremely dangerous.
