Sciatica is quite common among patients. I have also treated many cases of patients suffering from it!
There are many causes of sciatica. (Sciatica caused by lumbar intervertebral disc herniation and that caused by the piriformis muscle are the most common.)
If treated with drugs, it can be classified into three types for treatment: rheumatism type, kidney deficiency type, and blood stasis type. Acupuncture and moxibustion mainly focus on treating through the meridians.
Commonly used acupoints:
- Linggu (in holographic theory, it corresponds to the sciatic nerve) and Dabai (has an excellent pain-relieving effect) are used to treat sciatica related to the Lung Meridian.
- Zhongbai and Xiabai (tonify the kidney, and in holographic theory, they correspond to the lower limbs), and Shoujie (acts on the heart, relieves pain, and is also in the kidney area) are used to treat sciatica related to the Kidney Meridian.
Acupoints of the Heart Meridian are very effective in treating sciatica. In most cases, acupoints of the Heart Meridian work well for pain relief (treating pain with warmth)! The heart is connected to the gallbladder.
The Muhuo acupoints have a very good effect in treating sciatica. (It is related to the cardiac nerve.)
