Operation

(1) Finger kneading method: Use the tip of the finger to exert force on the treatment area, and perform gentle and moderate circular activities.

(2) Palm kneading method: Use the palm to exert force on the treatment area, and perform gentle and moderate circular activities.

(3) Thenar and hypothenar kneading method: Use the thenar eminence or the hypothenar eminence to exert force on the treatment area, and perform gentle and moderate circular activities.

(4) Heel of palm kneading method: Use the heel of the palm to exert force on the treatment area, and perform gentle and moderate circular activities; you can also overlap the two palms, use the heel of the palm to exert force on the treatment area, and knead with force in the left and right directions.

(5) Forearm kneading method: Use the ulnar side of the forearm to exert force on the treatment area, and apply force to perform circular kneading or kneading from side to side.

(6) Elbow kneading method: Use the olecranon of the ulna to exert force on the treatment area, and apply force to perform circular kneading or kneading from side to side.

Key points of the movement

(1) The proximal part of the limb should drive the distal part to make small – amplitude circular kneading movements. For example, use the forearm to drive the wrist and palm to perform the palm kneading method.

(2) The force – applying part should be fixed on the treatment area and drive the deep – seated tissues.

(3) The pressure should be even, and the movements should be coordinated and rhythmic.

(4) The amplitude of the kneading movement should be moderate, neither too large nor too small.

Clinical Application

When applying this method, it should be noted that the force-applying part should be adsorbed on the treatment area, and the amplitude of the circular kneading movement should be moderate. If the amplitude is either too large or too small, it will affect the relaxation effect.

Requirements and Precautions

The kneading method is an important manipulation technique for relieving muscle spasms and eliminating fatigue. It can also relieve the pain in the injured area. When applied to the abdomen, it has the effect of regulating the functions of the stomach and intestines. The finger kneading method is mainly used on acupoints; the palm kneading method is mainly used on the waist, back and abdomen; the thenar and hypothenar kneading method is mostly used on the head and face; the heel of palm kneading method, forearm kneading method and elbow kneading method are mainly used on the lumbosacral region.
