Throat blockage is caused by excessive stagnant fire in the liver and lungs. The congestion of heat leads to swelling, pain, and difficulty in swallowing. One should prick Shangyang, Guanchong, Shaochong, Hegu, and Shaoshang, and acupuncture at these acupoints will lead to a cure.

Introduction of Acupoints
Shangyang: Located on the inner side of the index finger of the hand, at a distance from the corner of the fingernail as wide as a chive leaf.

Guanchong: Located on the outer side of the ring finger of the hand, at a distance from the fingernail as wide as a chive leaf.
Shaochong: Located at the end of the inner edge of the little finger of the hand, at a distance from the fingernail as wide as a chive leaf.
Hegu: Located in the depression between the metacarpal bones of the thumb and the index finger of the hand.
Shaoshang: Located on the inner side of the thumb of the hand, at a distance from the fingernail as wide as a chive leaf.

In severe cases, there is slow swelling outside the neck, a mass in the throat as big as a fist, difficulty in swallowing soup or water, inability to speak, and sudden onset of fever and chills. Urgently prick the Shaoshang acupoint, or perform acupuncture at the Hegu acupoint to open up the throat. There is also throat blockage caused by alcohol toxicity, which is due to the steaming of alcohol toxicity in the Heart and Spleen Meridians, causing heat congestion in the throat. The throat is swollen and yellow in color, the person has a red face, and the eyes roll upward. If the swelling occurs outside the neck and there is pain due to pus and swelling, there is a risk of the pus penetrating the throat. One should not prick it lightly.
