For adults, it may be caused by touching the earwax when cleaning the ear, or water accidentally entering the ear.

Medical Cases
[Case 1]: Mr. Qin, 52 years old, from Shandong Province, lived in Lane 203, Bo’ai Road, Taipei City. There were red and swollen sores in his left ear, often with bleeding and a lot of pus, causing unbearable pain. On September 16, 1968 (the 57th year of the Republic of China), he came to me for diagnosis and treatment. I selected the acupoints Tinggong (SI19), Waiguan (SJ5), Guanchong (SJ1), Shaoze (SI1), and Zuqiaoyin (GB44). After three acupuncture treatments, the pain stopped and the swelling subsided.
[Case 2]: Mr. Zhang, 55 years old, from Zhejiang Province, lived at the mouth of Gouzi, Muzha, Taipei City. Due to an injury from ear picking, it led to sores. There was rotting, pain, and continuous discharge of a lot of pus. He had already become half deaf and had been suffering for five years. He had consulted many famous doctors but there was no improvement. Recommended by his close friend Mr. Wu, on May 11, 1970 (the 59th year of the Republic of China), he came to me for diagnosis and treatment. After three acupuncture treatments at the previous acupoints, the swelling subsided, the pain stopped, and he recovered.
